Socialism… Are we there yet?
I’m going to be honest with all the dedicated readers of my blog. I’m not an activist, nor am I a political pundit. I’m just a guy who came to the US from the former USSR, and who has parents and grandparents who continually obsess with stories of how awful the medical system was back in Russia. Even though the USSR doesn’t exist anymore, heck, just look at our Canadian brethren, and how happy they are to accept our services of the complex medical procedures, and even our own drugs. They love us for it!
So why, may I ask, does the wonderful and caring Obama administration want to go the “Utopian” route, when it knows all too well that history is only bound to repeat itself? Even Pravda, a Russian newspaper (translated as “Truth”), says that we’re heading in the direction of Marxism. Does the administration not see that, or do they..? I’m seeing more and more patriots, people who love this country and the values that it stands for, stand up and speak their mind, and what do I hear in return? A rippling affect of media backlashing accusing our very own patriots as being “conservative”, and marking Conservatism as something negative and bad, when in affect our very own Liberal party has completely lost its true, Libertarian values that it one day used to stand for.
Do you want to see long waits for medical treatment? Do you want the doctor using the same needle on you for a blood test that they have used on the patient before (ok, maybe that’s too extreme of an example, but it was very true back in the USSR – why? Because the government eventually ran out of money, and they had to cut down on supply... Does that sound familiar?)
Ok, I do understand that many people, some of whom I am friends with, do not have medical insurance and they need to insure themselves and their family. I used to be an immigrant once, and our family didn’t have coverage. Well guess what, we had Medicare, and waited in line just like everyone else. What is happening with Medicare and Medicaid now? They’re going bankrupt, and now you want to vote to have your taxpayer dollars go towards a bigger Medicare, that will also inevitably go bankrupt? It just doesn’t make much sense to me. If you are below a certain income, you can qualify for the current plan offered by the US government.
Then, there are those who ask ‘Well why should we pay different rates for health insurance? It’s just not fair and doesn’t make sense!” Well, the only judge of fairness in this case is the Free Market and Competition. These should be the only two deciding factors on healthcare pricing, not some 26-year-old Harvard college grad who couldn’t do any better than land a government job, and now, with a degree in legal studies, must decide the fate of millions.
If you are for the Social Healthcare Reform, please state your comments, if you are against it, please state your comments too. I’d like to hear it from both sides. And please, no hate language, let’s keep this intellectual!
Yours truly,
